Hello! My name is Sarah M’Marite and this is my first year in law school. I am currently studying in the University of Cape Town. I am studying law postcard - I graduated beginning of this year with a Bachelor of Commerce specializing in Economics and Law and have decided to continue studying law and pursuing a career in Refugee Law in South Africa.

My father supported me throughout my undergraduate degree. However, upon finding out I am bisexual he has decided to stop paying for my tuition and my living expenses. I have taken out a loan and have received a bursary which partially covers my tuition and accommodation expenses. I also currently work as a tutor in a disadvantaged community just outside of Cape Town in Vrygrond(Capricorn). I help run the University's Chapter of Rethinking Economics for Africa, and I am also a part of the development Basketball Team in my University. I have maintained an lower second GPA (65%) throughout undergrad.

I have always known, at least from the age of 13, that I am queer. It wasn't something I was ever comfortable talking about with anyone and mentioned it once or twice to acquaintances and always regretted doing so afterwards. I grew up in a very strict Christian household where even my playing basketball was taken issue with - so there was no way I could ever bring this up with my father. It is only in the previous year when I got into a long term relationship with a woman that I built up the courage to speak to my dad. My father did not take it well and told me that for him to continue supporting me I would have to stop being bisexual. Because I don't have anyone to sign as surety for loans to cover the shortfall my applications for study loans have not been approved.

My tuition and accommodation expenses amount to $9000 this year. An amount I will not be able to pay off given my current circumstances. Any donation will go towards reducing my debit and paying off the shortfall for this year. Getting accepted into the University of Cape Town's law faculty is a dream come true for me. And I hope that with your help, the help of Felix and my community I will be able to pursue my education without the risk of being financially excluded.

Thank you so much for your time and generosity!
