I have been asked to join a team of HealthCare Medical Professionals, largely from the South West region, on a trip to Nepal to undertake some charity work at Nepal Medical College Teaching Hospital (NMCTH), Kathmandu. It will be the inaugural trip, with the aim of setting up a Paediatric Deformity Correction centre which will be linked with SICOT (International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology). NMCTH have very limited resources, and have zero paediatric orthopaedic input.  This will hopefully, therefore, be the foundation year of an ongoing initiative, and on this trip alone, we hope to improve the lives of at least 25 young children and their families.

This trip will largely consist of paediatric deformity correction work using the Taylor Spatial Frame, hence the request for my involvement. The Consultant led team have been using external fixator frames for many years, however, they feel that my involvement with helping to train the theatre staff and also my assistance in theatre will help reduce operating time per case, and ultimately allow more cases to be completed in the limited time we would have.

The trip will span two weeks (20/10/13 – 01/11/13) and will incorporate a number of clinic and assessment sessions before a week of theatre. Due to various work and personal commitments I would only be available for one week of the trip, but, scheduled correctly, this will allow me to attend the Symposium on the Saturday which will cover the training element, and then almost a full week of theatre time in order to support the team.

The costs amount to approximately £1400. My target fund raising goal is half of this amount and is to simply cover the return air fare.

I do not expect to sit back and be sponsored for nothing and so in order to raise the funds I will be competing (along with the help of four good friends and colleagues) in the Survival of the Fittest race in Cardiff on Sunday 29th September 2013. The event is labelled as "a colossal 10k urban assault course", and is certainly no stroll in the park!

I feel very honoured to have been asked to be part of this project and I genuinely feel that it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity. On that basis, any sponsorship amount would be greatfully received.

Many thanks

Jamie

**UPDATE**

Due to a change in circumstances, the amount required has needed to be changed. More so than ever, any contributions possible would be hugely appreciated. Thank you.
