Campaign Story
My mother was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer a few years ago and she fought the battle long and hard. She overcame cancer and she is very strong for that. Ovarian Cancer is very rare but is the most deadly gynecologic cancer out there. One of the problems is very little early detection because of the area it starts and because there is not enough awareness out there. Everyone knows to wear pink as Breat Cancer Awareness but do you think half the population could tell you that teal is the color for Ovarian Cancer Awareness or even that September is the month for awareness? No, because Pink has taken over the entire year and consumed many people's lives. There are more people living with breast cancer than ovarian cancer and that's because most diagnosed with ovarian cancer don't live much long after. The whole point in this fundraising project is just the beginning to something even bigger and better. I would like to try to raise enough money to put on a special activity at my college campus to alert people of the dangers of cancer and how to become aware early. In raising money, I will set up some type of fundraiser at my school where people can "buy" something small or "donate" money to the Ovarian Cancer Research Centers. I would also like to have a "Teal" day just as breast cancer has a "Pink" day. I am hoping that this will work out great for me as I have no extra money to set anything up out of pocket but I am extremely serious about this topic. I want everyone else to know what's going on and the facts of Ovarian Cancer because it seems to be hidden underneath all the awareness for Breat Cancer.
