Orphange Volunteer Project, Ghana

In January, I have been accepted to volunteer in an orphanage in Ghana for six weeks. This is an amazing opportunity for me to do something worthwhile with my year out before I go to university next year, and something I am extremely excited to be a part of. As part of Plan My Gap Year's programme volunteers are encouraged to fundraise to help fund their trip, which pays for accommodation, project orientation and support from project leaders, and to also raise money for the charity and the particular project they will be working with.

Although Ghana is one of the more developed nations in Africa, it still has many issues regarding poverty and child neglect and abuse. Due to limited staff and resources, children in care in Ghana aren't able to experience the childhood they deserve. Therefore volunteers from abroad are an essential and valuable element to improving the lives of children in orphanages. For six weeks I will be helping staff and children at the orphange, whilst being responsible for improving the living standards and the accessibility the children have to education. This will be an extremely challenging and life-changing trip, but one that I am keen to experience and I hope I will be a valuable asset to this programme.

Donating through GogetFunding is simple and completely secure, and any excess money I raise I will give to the charity to help benefit their projects whilst I am there and once I leave.
