Campaign Story
Hi my name is Dr. Grigorios Fragkos (@drgfragkos)
North Evia (Evia or Euboea, see: wikipedia) is my hometown. The North part of the island has no escape route to the mainland Greece, other than using a ferry boat. North Evia, {had} one of the most amazing (including natura protected) forests with unbelievable wildlife (which had nowhere to escape to during the wildfire). See also reporting from Reuters
In this Twitter thread you can have just a glimpse of the magnitude of the disaster. (Warning: shocking photos/videos). You can also Google: North Evia Fires
Wherever you are in the word, if you want to help, please consider covering the cost of a tree(s). For example, the cost of one pine-tree to be planted is approximately around €10 (approx. £8.5 or USD 11.5). Please note: The type of trees and where/how need to be planted will be in coordination with the local forest authorities.
I am trying to help coordinate how this can be done with the local municipality. You can reach out to me on Twitter. Simply respond/reply to the twitter thread, and re-tweet/tag those who might be interested in helping out (or share this gogetfunding page).
This is an attempt to raise awareness of the devastating situation and have a simple but also coordinated way to allow anyone who wants to buy/contribute in helping North Evia in buying one or more tree to be planted as soon as possible.
Autumn rains will end up annihilating everything that is left if there are no enough trees to support the ground.

It took almost 10 days..
Update posted by Grigorios Fragkos at 12:03 pmIt took almost 10 days to put the fire out. Firefighters from all over Europe (see here). More specifically, the EU member states that responded to Greece’s request to the European Civil Protection Mechanism were Cyprus, France, Croatia, Sweden, Romania, Spain, Czechia, Poland, Slovenia, Austria, and eventually Germany. Countries outside. . . . .
Day 6 of the North Evia disaster
Update posted by Grigorios Fragkos at 05:04 amThe wildfire are still ongoing. The local and volunteers from all over Greece and other EU countries are trying their best non-stop day and night. The area between the two ongoing fires is already burned with many villages evacuated and unfortunately left with burned houses. This is the Google map

Wildfires are consuming enormous swaths of our most precious wildlife and human habitats here in California at the same time as they are devastating Evia... our hearts are with you, and we hope your reforestation efforts are able to begin as soon as the inferno is contained...
