Did you ever have a desire to become a pilot, looked over the requirements and money needed to advance, and became discouraged? Maybe you earned your Private Pilot Certification and stopped because you couldn't afford to earn the hours needed to progress your certifications.
Then you and I are alike. My name is Steve and I'm just about finished with earning my Private Pilot Certificate. It’s been a little costly thus far, but manageable. I've been looking over what I need to do to get my Commercial License so I can start a career in flying, and found that there is no real way to earn the necessary hours without purchasing an airplane or spending massive amounts of money to rent one for the hours you need. You can also spend a good amount of money to join a flying club and that will bring the renting price down some. While joining a flying club has benefits, the costs involved still make obtaining the requirements to start a career as a pilot very difficult for the "not-so-rich". Needless to say, it kind of puts a damper on things when you get to a point where you can't afford to progress any further.
I've decided not to let it get me down or halt my training. I'm looking into starting a Nonprofit company with a couple of other pilots for the sole purpose of making the earning of your additional hours a more affordable venture. The funds raised here will be used to create the Nonprofit company and purchase a couple of airplanes to be used by new Private Pilots in order to earn the necessary hours to reach the minimums for Commercial certification. This will not be a replacement for traditional flight training, just a method to obtain the needed minimum flight hours without spending your life savings. The airplanes will be rented free of charge (however the pilots will be required to pay for the fuel they use and have renters insurance, at a minimum). I've spoken with many other private pilots that have run in to the same dilemma and we all believe this will provide a much needed boost to the progression of pilots and an increase in the number of pilots making flying their career. The pilots that will benefit from this service will be extremely thankful for any assistance, as will the entire flying community for the increase in pilots continuing on to make flying a career.
In addition, if the membership and funding for this Nonprofit appear to be in demand, the future may hold things like, scholarships for flight training, continuing pilot progression for the Air Transport Pilot certification as well, additional aircraft to use for keeping current with other endorsements and ratings. One of our goals is to make flying more affordable for all walks of life without taking away from the traditional training required to groom exceptional pilots.
If you are also interested in joining the Nonprofit, feel free to leave a message in the donation, or in the comments and we will be in contact.
