Campaign Story
We are a group of 8 aspiring student filmmakers who hope to create our own short film.
Logline: An at-risk teen must either learn to embrace life's difficulties, or be engulfed by the flames it creates.
Synopsis: Night- A term that many people refer to as bedtime, a time of peace, rest and recuperation. The film will portray the other person’s perspective of night. Growing up in this day & age, teenage delinquents/rebels have alot to face then just schoolwork. Relationship issues, family problems, self-esteem, self-expectations, fear to disappoint, battling inner thoughts and feelings. The story revolves around one of those rebels, and his idea of nighttime. The story’s timeline starts at the beginning of midnight (12am) as we see blocks and blocks of houses off their light and go to sleep. However, the protagonist is just getting his day started. He lies on his bed as the alarm ticks, and begins the many thoughts, emotions and feelings through visual and storytelling elements. Examples could be, quarrels, arguments, failure, temptation. As the night passes, the protagonist picks himself up slowly, one step at a time. From being low-spirited, to crashing down into a mental breakdown, he/she reaches a turning point, self-realisation, and recovery by the end of midnight. Although this learning process and experiences are shown to be real-life moments, it is revealed at sunrise that the protagonist had never once left his bed, and all those instances were just thoughts formed up in his troubled, confused and lonely brain. The film expresses how many at-risk teenagers and how vulnerable they feel alone, when no one’s around, and the things they battle, the thoughts that race through their mind, and how to conquer them, before starting a brand new day.
We hope to create this film so that we can bring light to the situations of modern day youths, where there is a rising issue regarding mental health, along with tackling personal relations and pressure from the society. Through this film, we aim to empathise with these youths, and raise awareness and significance of the problems that they may face, along with acting as a reminder that no one leads a perfect life, and we should always look out for one another and lend a listening ear to whoever's in need.
