Project Kwago is a multi-sector thermal drone with anti-collision and ADSB systems.

Kwago is a Search and Rescue drone specializing in night operations. It is an app-based system equipped with a thermal imaging camera to detect heat signatures from the ground. It also has other features like pattern recognition, auto take-off and landing, collision avoidance, sonars, ads-b system, etc.

The Philippines are prone to natural calamities like storms, flood and earthquakes. Most drones used in search and rescue only takes photos or videos for damage assessment or aerial survey during daytime. We know that it is hard to conduct rescue operations at night. Rescuers only rely on lighting equipment to look for survivors like flashlights, floodlights, etc. It takes a lot of time walking through debris and doing searches at ground level.

Another issue we are looking to address is the danger involved in flying drones near the presence of full-scale aircraft. Our concept can be used at night and can be safely flown around full-size aircraft.

The system can be operated by a single person via an app where they can control and monitor it just like the Ground Station. They can also communicate with the ground station using the app. "Kwago Search and Rescue App" is the first app that we have done for Kwago.

When a particular area has been identified for search, the user will then use the Kwago App to plot the coordinates of the area on the map. Kwago will first do a high altitude thermal scan of the area (about 400 feet) to detect and identify thermal signatures from the ground. Once a thermal signature has been detected, the system will mark them, then Kwago will start doing a low altitude sweep of the area (about 40-50feet) to get the exact location or coordinates of the detected heat signatures and also to have a more detailed information of the subject.

The coordinates will be transmitted in real time to the ground station or to the rescuer nearest to the location. When a heat signature is detected during a sweep, the operator has two options. Kwago can hover and beam a light on top of the subject while waiting for aid or Kwago will mark and submit the coordinates of the subject to the ground station and continue with the sweep. If no heat signature is detected, Kwago can move on to the next target area, thus saving the rescue team a lot of time.

Help spread the word!
