PLEASE SUPPORT OUR DREAM OF AN OUTDOOR THEATRE FOR CHILDREN

Covid19 has stopped all indoor theatre for children in South Africa - we want to bring children’s theatre back to life.

We want to start an outdoor theatre in our grounds in Johannesburg! We want children to be able to come with their parents or care givers and sit on the grass in designated safe areas and once more enjoy the magic of theatre.

We have a proposed lovely grassy area surrounded by trees - an ideal outdoor setting. What we need is a barrier against noise from a busy street. To this end we are asking for support for buying old 45 gallon oil drums which will make an ideal sound barrier. We need 100 drums. Your donation of as little as $10 will buy one drum - and we will place your name on the drum as a donor. (Of course if you can afford to donate more we will be delighted!)

As we are a community based organisation and this is a project which will benefit the community we are going to ask our workshop children to paint the drums. Expect to see some wonderful artwork!

Children need theatre! In these times, more than ever children will delight in being creatively involved in performances – whether epic storytelling, eye-popping puppetry, drama on the high seas – every show will ignite a lifelong love for the performing arts – presenting innovative and energising ideas, encouraging use of imagination, and introducing great literature.

National Children’s Theatre (South Africa) has won many awards for bringing professional educational theatre to children, performing at schools, community centres, theatres, in cities and rural areas across all provinces - and at the same time employing young actors and technicians, giving them their first opportunity of professional work. Now, in these challenging times, when children’s theatres all over South Africa have closed down we would love nothing more than to start showcasing and performing again – but know that indoor theatre is not going to work for a long, long time!
