Hi! Jennifer and I are both nurses on a busy sub acute rehabilitation unit. We spend our days helping the sick get better and get home to their families. We both love our jobs and what we do but both of us feel we could be doing more. Our patients have insurance, they have doctors to go to when they are sick, and hospitals to figure out whats wrong with them. What about all of the people in this world that dont have that luxury? In many areas of the world medical care truly is a luxury that is not available. To reach a hospital requires traveling. For those who do make it to a hospitals they find that they .are underdeveloped and poorly staffed. Trained medical professionals in these areas are simply overwhelmed.
Jennifer and I know that we cant change the healthcare systems in these coutries but what we can do is support the efforts in these places. What we would like to do is take 2 weeks a year and visit these areas providing medical care to the undeserved. For our first trip we have chosen Costa Rica. While Costa Rica is a resort town the wealth is only enjoyed by a few while the rest live in extreme poverty. Medical care is simply unaffordable. Jennifer and I will be traveling there with the global vounteer network for 2 weeks to help provide nursing services to these patients. While there we also hope to immprove our spanish so that we can better communicate with our patients at home.
Unfortunately me and Jenn cant do this without help. We both work full time and simply cant afford to fund this trip. We are asking for support to raise the funds so we can proceed with this trip.
