Running for the victims of the Kenya Westgate terrorist attack.
On Sunday 27th October Marcus will be running the Nairobi Marathon and Hannah the Nairobi Half-Marathon.
We will be running to show our support for all the people in Kenya, and Nairobi specifically, who have experienced one of the most shocking terrorist attacks. Our goal is to raise funds for the victims of the Westgate terror attack.
After many discussions with family, friends and colleagues living in Kenya - even including a twitter exchange with the British High Commissioner in Kenya - the charity who's name keeps coming up is the Kenya Red Cross. The charity's work in helping victims of the terror attack and their ongoing support has gained universal praise.
All the money we receive will go directly to the charity.
As well as raising fundswe hope to demonstrate that Kenya is still an amazing place for British and other tourists to visit despite the recent attack. We had planned to run the Nairobi Marathon/Half-Marathon before the Westgate attack and when we first saw the images of the terrible terrorism on TV, after calling our family and friends to check how they were, we even thought for a brief moment of puling out. Then we realised what better way to demonstrate our support to our family and friends and support the tourism industry (one of the most important to the Kenyan economy) than by going to run.
Kenyans have given the world amazing runners over the years. Now is the time for us to run for them.
Important notice: If you are at all nervous about donating through his online fund raising page then please feel free to donate directly to the Kenya Red Cross through their website here: https://www.kenyaredcross.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=82 All we would ask is for you to register on this page to say how much you have donated so we know how much we are raising through the marathon.
