As part of my church’s yearly mission send-off, I have been placed on a team going to Myanmar! 🇲🇲

This is an incredible opportunity to give love to the people of this beautiful land. We are going to be serving in a village in Yangon, in partnership with pastor Mang, who has devoted his life to spreading the Word and love of God to the people of Myanmar.

This community of believers form part of the very poor and underprivileged minority, who have faced great persecution and hardship for their faith, which goes against the majorly Buddhist faith of the country. It is a sad reality that only 4% of the population have heard and accepted the gospel - most of the population has never heard the gospel nor the name of Jesus. There is a cost to being a Christian in Myanmar. Believers are disowned and rejected from their families and communities, losing their jobs and their livelihood in order to know and live for Christ. This is a cost most of us believers in the West never have to consider.

The team, consisting of 9 university students, is going to be working with pastor Mang to bless and serve the community and to bear the load that pastor Mang so graciously carries each day. Pastor Mang runs an orphanage in the village with the little funds and resources available - all by the grace and provision of God. We will be loving the people and orphans in this village, as well as trusting God to use us to share the gospel with those who have never heard. We will be preaching and teaching in the village, running some of the Bible school sessions in various connection churches around Yangon, serving at the orphanage and availing ourselves to be used by God as He wills.

WHY SEND ME?

This will be my first ever mission trip, as well as my first time going to another country! I've always had a deep desire to go and partake in the great commission on a global level, but I've allowed fear and excuses to stop me. "I am only a student, who's already dependent on a bursary for my studies (by God's provision) - how will I pay?" Me of little faith, right? Well, this year I am saying yes to God! I'm going to trust in the leading and confirmation I feel He's giving me for this mission and that where He sends, He will also pay - through those who are supportive and willing to be His hands in sending me to Myanmar.

I am needing to raise R20 000 - half of which I am trusting to raise through this site and the other half through direct EFT via https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OixoaTA7iGWVi-Tr_... (Reference: MyanmarJess2018) due to payment goals team members are trying to reach by certain dates. Any little bit that you're willing to sew into this mission will be greatly appreciated, whether it be in prayer or in finances - or both!

Luke 10:2 “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few”.

How great that we get to partner with God in what He is doing - whether we sew or whether we go.

Thank you for co-laboring with me!

  • Jess, whatever happens - I just want you to know how proud of you I am. For putting yourself out there and trusting God. I know you’re going to go, but even if you don’t - God is already as pleased with you as if you’ve already gone, because you’ve trusted Him. I hope this helps in a small way to get you over there ... I love you and you’re my hero.
