Hi, my name is Oscar Smith, I’m 15 and I have been accepted for an exciting expedition to the East of Greenland with my school. This three week expedition is an amazing opportunity to experience a quickly disappearing extreme of our world, giving me a wider perspective of the world that we live in. I have fought through interviews and claimed one place of twelve on this expedition.
In late July 2019 we will leave for Greenland and traverse glaciers and peaks on foot with packs or with sledges, surviving on rations but camping out in the snow and under the stars. We also have the amazing chance to meet with the Inuit people and be able to spend time in their villages, giving us the opportunity to see how they live and to experience their culture and traditions.
This once in a lifetime trip will build on my resilience and confidence, helping me to develop my social and teamwork skills and become a stronger person. I have to raise nearly £5000 for the trip (including kit) but I am already well underway thanks to my cake sales, schools fayres, neighbourhood jobs and planned events; having made just over £1500. I have long hoped for a chance to truly experience our world and I am looking forward to every second of it. Thank you for your support.
