Campaign Story
Mothman is a West Virginia cryptid - an obscure, undocumented creature typically originating from folklore - reportedly seen in the Point Pleasant area from November 12, 1966, to December 15, 1967. The creature was described as a "large flying man with ten-foot wings". A black figure with piercing, red, glowing eyes.
Since the first published mention of Mothman in the news, the creature has sparked public interest, becoming a figure in books, movies and comics. His appearance and home - assumed to be the site of a former World War II munitions plant - made Mothman stand out among the American cryptids as a unique character. He's been tied to mysticism, UFO sightings and military mysteries by folklorists and conspiracy aficionados, as well as dismissed as a big barn owl. Point Pleasant now hosts an annual Mothman festival, and is home to the Mothman Museum. Real or false, Mothman certainly has a place in American folklore.
