Moon Lake Water

A large fire burned through the forest surrounding the Moon Lake Resort in 2020. Ever since we have been plagued by flooding coming off the burn scar. For the most part, the resort has evaded the direct effects of the flooding, but a huge flash flood came down off the mountain on the 26th of August and wiped out the water line that supplies water to the campground and resort. Also, a flash flood at the campground took out part of the water infrastructure there as well. So, the resort at Moon Lake has no water for the time being.

We have been buying water from the Forest Service and it is their system that is out of commission. They say it will be late summer next year before they get their water system fully operational. We can't open until we have water next year due to the inconvenience and the construction, etc. So, here's the rub...if we wait for the Forest Service, we may not have water until mid-August if at all next year. We know that is not acceptable for us, and especially for you who so look forward to your stay at Moon Lake every year. We have another option, which will be quicker as we can move faster than the federal government, and that is to set up a large tank connected directly to the resort's main water line and haul water from our Mountain Home Lodge.

We will need money to pay for the tank and the water-hauling truck and the fuel and labor to haul the water. We have had several of you offer to help with the cost and we have set up this crowdfunding account if you would like to help donate to the cost. Anything will help move things along.

The first permit for Moon Lake Resort was issued in 1925 so 2025 will be the 100th anniversary of the resort. We plan to have a celebration that year and will unveil a plaque honoring all those who donate, plus anyone donating $25 or more will get a commemorative keychain, fridge magnet, tree ornament, etc. of their choice.
