In less than 3 weeks I am leaving for Mongolia to take part in the world's longest, toughest endurance race (or so they claim). It is a 1000km race, on semi-wild Mongolian ponies, across the Mongolian steppe. There will be desert, mountains, rivers, grass land and very changeable weather. Each racer is on their own, having to survive and navigate whatever way they wish and with whatever tools they bring with them. There is a medical team for emergencies but help can be up to 6hrs away in the event of an accident.
I am not doing this for charity, I am doing it for fun. That said, the race helps the Mongolian herders and their families by raising awareness of the capability of their horses (allowing them to be sold for more, increased stud fees etc) as well as bringing some income to the local communities.
The rules of the race are that you must carry all of your own survival equipment with you - but with only a 5kg allowance this it is not many items! I am fundraising at this point (after self funding the £000's required) as I do not have 'luxuries' that I would like to bring. I would like for example a good quality, light weight, down jacket for the cold, I would like a go-pro or similar so that I have a way of recording the adventure. I have the basics (bivi bag, a multi tool, GPS and some rope) but would really appreciate help in obtaining a few items that would make the adventure more manageable!
Any donation welcome and I will share some stories of the adventure in return - once I return, hopefully without any major injuries!
