Modou Colley, who was my good friend when I was living in the Gambia a few years ago, wants to be an architect and an artist. He's gone through several years of training at art school which has cost his not-well-off family a significant portion of their savings, but because of a lack of money after a few family illnesses they're now struggling to get by, and Modou is at risk of having to abandon his dream. In the UK we are free to pursue whatever life goals we want, and this guy wants to be an artist, but because he was born in the wrong place he can't do that. So I'm hoping to raise a couple of hundred pounds so the family can invest in a source of income that will pay for their basic needs so he can focus on what he wants to do with his life.
In his words:
"My dad gave me a shop in our house to operate a business of my choice, so I can able to take some of the responsibilities in my family. I wish to open a PlayStation and barber saloon in that shop which I believe can bring little income to sustained us. I believe if the business go through, feeding (bag of rice and fish money) as main of our problem wouldn't be difficult."
