I was financially ruined in my legal battle to have access to my son following my divorce from his other mommy - the South African legal system seems baffled when it comes to same-sex divorces and rights and // responsibilities of the other parent.
My struggle is still on-going and I will NEVER stop fighting for my son - however, I can only imagine how hard the struggle is for other Mommies and Daddies out there who does not have support and / or funds to get the legal assistance needed to have access to the children they helped raised; that they love; that they want to be a part of.
It is hardbreaking reading stories of children being alienated from their other parent; of parents going to sleep now knowing how their boys / girls are doing; having to remain breathing when your breath is knocked out by an inept system that simply does not know how to respond to same-sex issues and children involved.
Sure, Children's Court and the Family Advocate is a free service - trust me, those go only so far. You need the backing of a GOOD lawyer and advocate, and for that, you need money. I will continue working odd jobs and finding ways to fund my fight to have access to my boy - and the aim of this campaign is to use the proceeds for a TRUST account to assist those Mommies and Daddies who cannot afford to fight for their babies.
