Missionary to Japan

Hi there, visitor! Thanks for being here!

God has placed it on my heart to serve the Japanese and bring the saving Gospel of Christ to them. God has called me to live there, indefinitely and invest my life in discipleship, evangelism and shepherding. However, I cannot do it alone. I need the help of others and today I am appealing to you, dear reader, to join in on God's mission of reaching the unreached in Japan.

Why Japan?

From the 127 million Japanese, less than 0.3% are evangelical Christians. Christianity is also rejected in this society, seen as a dangerous cult, most who take the step of faith are disowned or shunned. 8 out of 10 of these Japanese Christians turn away from Christ because they either do not know how to be a Christian in their culture, or they have no discipleship and feel alone and abandoned once they are rejected from society.

After speaking to some Japanese believers I felt the deep sense of need – they are desperate for support, discipleship and even just having a church with 10 people is a luxury many do not have. Some travel for hours by train to see other believers. Having experienced myself, the value and need of Christian community, discipleship and solid Biblical teachings, I cannot sit back, having taken the luxury of Christianity for granted, all of this time, when others are desperate for Christ and need help.

I must go back.

I must do what I can to serve God here. My heart sank when I heard the Japan Times announce that the leading cause of death for children in Japan ages 10-14 is suicide. Isolation, feeling purposeless, lies about personal values and other issues left unattended send them into a downward spiral. This is also the leading cause of death in men aged 20-44. People isolate themselves for months or even years (Hikikomori), death by overwork, and other issues seem to pile on as this beautiful nation wrestle with the impossible standards it demands of itself.

BBC wrote an article where a Japanese man claimed “Japan has no history of Christianity. So here suicide is not a sin, in fact, some look at it as a way of taking responsibility.” Again, the need for Christ is more and more evident.

In my 2017 trip, I felt God say to me “Who will I send? Who will go for us? In that moment I knew I had to go back. Therefore, I said “Send me, oh Lord. Send me. I will go.” May God have mercy on the Japanese and reveal his Son to them.

The Objective: Here is a list of the three main objectives I will work towards once in Japan

 Need #1: Disciple through Life on Life Missional Discipleship; Shepherding Returnee Japanese Diaspora Christians; and Equipping Japanese pastors and New Churches to do the same with the local Japanese.

 Need #2: Become like them so they may know Christ. Christianity is a foreign concept to the Japanese, I want to become like them so that they can see that it is possible for a Japanese to be Christian. Christ is for them and he loves them just as deeply. This includes learning the language and culture. I want to share Christ with them in their heart language.

 Need #3: Evangelization and meeting the practical needs of those around me.

I am currently on staff at Rosebank Union Church, Johannesburg, South Africa and studying at the Baptist Theological College here too. They are my sending Church but our resources can only go so far.

OMF International is my sending organization. My deadline for raising support, set out by OMF is beginning November 2020.

God has placed this tremendous burden on my heart to move to Japan for full-time ministry work. I cannot do this alone and need to rely on the body of Christ to support me in God’s ministry work. This is why I am writing this proposal to you, in hopes that you would consider partnering with me in the call to Missions in Japan, by being financial partner. I pray that God would give you the wisdom and discernment needed to make such an important call and that you would find it within your ability to support me as I serve the Japanese.

May God bless you as you serve him faithfully in the Great Commission - reaching the lost world, making disciples of all nations, all to the Glory of the Father, in the name of the Son and through the power of the Holy Spirit.
