Campaign Story
my name is mikey cartwright i am 24 years old and i have a eye disease called karataconus im registered as partially sighted and can not see very well due to the disease .
i have previously had 2 pages and raised £3,200 towards my surgery but need a further £225 to complete my goal and get my surgery this was due to charges that where taken off each donation by go get funding
the surgery is called cxl and intacts csl ( cornea cross linking) stops the progression of kerataconus and the intacts will make my cornea a more normal rounded shape allowing my vision to be alot better than what it is
i would really love to have this surgery and sort my life out get a job and be able to do things that i struggle with or cant do at the minute with my 2 year old son tyler i would love to teach tyler how to ride a bike and take him on holiday and get to spend more time with him than i do at the minute
Keratoconus is a progressive eye disease in which the normally round cornea thins and begins to bulge into a cone-like shape. This cone shape deflects light as it enters the eye on its way to the light-sensitive retina, causing distorted vision
C3R is Corneal Collagen Cross-linking with Riboflavin. Ultraviolet light is used to promote increased cross-linking between collagen fibres within the cornea (the front transparent structure of the eye). Increasing the amount of cross-linking results in increased strength or rigidity of the cornea.
