Michelle to English Channel Crossing

Hi Everyone.

2 years ago I decided to sign up and embark on this crazy adventure of swimming the English Channel. For those of you who know me this is swim is far from anything I'm use to doing.. in that it's much further (35km), the water is colder water (14-18C) and it's a solo swim (with of cause a boat and my crew support next to me <3).

I set my sights on doing this swim when I met a group of swimmers who were all aspiring to do the same thing. While listening to the logistics of the swim and being inspired by past swimmers stories.. in the spur of the moment I thought, "yeah, I think I can do that!" So I got all the details for the crossing and basically signed up the next day. With my slot for the swim being booked for the 15-25 August, to say I'm excited is an understatement! It's nothing I ever dreamt of doing, I've held hopes for a lot of my swims in competitions (past and future) but at the moment this one seems to take the cake.

I've started this fundraiser in hopes that it could help pay my way in taking on this challenge. With some of the swim already paid for and some sponsored, I still have to pay the remaining pilot fees (support boat), my flight tickets, visas and the swims registration fees. I wish these swims were cheaper but with pilots fees alone being £3,300 the entire swim becomes quite costly so I'm looking to raise the remaining R70,000.

I know it's never an easy time to give but R100 or R200 makes all the difference.
