University. He was accompanied by Dr. Edward M. O'Brien and Dr. Richard Kunz from Mercer University, Biomedical Engineering Department, as well as Dr. Charles Ruchalski from Temple University, School of Pharmacy. There are an estimated 100,000 untreated amputees still living in Vietnam, with an additional 2,000 men, women and children losing limbs each year due to the 2.2 million unexploded ordnance and landmines left over from the Vietnam War. Over the past nine years Mercer on Mission-Vietnam program has fit more than 7,000 amputees, and treated more than 40,000 orthopedic patients.
