Susan Mercer’s family and friends are asking for your support and help in her fight against Stage III C breast cancer.

Susan has insurance, but the typical treatment that insurance covers for breast cancer at this stage—inject the body with strong chemotherapy for 6 months, then cut everything out, then blast everything with radiation—is taxing enough on a healthy immune system.  Due to Susan’s 12 year battle with chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia leaving her with an already delicately balanced immune system, she knew she had to find an alternative therapy which wouldn’t be covered by insurance.

Susan found The Oasis of Healing in Arizona.  After 10 weeks at the clinic and then home protocols mixed with follow up visits, her latest PET scan shows no uptake anywhere in her body, although the mass is still in her breast.  What does this mean?  It means the treatment IS working but there is more to do.  Already the bills have topped $100,000.  Susan and her family are doing all they can each day to fight the cancer, but they can not fight the bills alone.  That is why they are asking for your help.

Susan and Doug have been married deeply in love for 17 years.  They were best friends for 6 years until one night, while talking at a party, they realized that they were going to get married.  They figured they had better date for a while.  Two weeks later they figured that was enough and got married!  They have been inseparable every since.

With their two boys, Maxwell (14) and Dexter (8), Susan and Doug have made a wonderful, if not conventional life deep in the heart of Texas.  They homeschool both boys.  They are vegetarians living in a barbecue state.  They actually, voluntarily bought full drumsets and electric guitars for their boys and don’t mind the noise when both boys are in their rooms playing on them.  They have three large dogs that have subsequently gotten larger and larger with every one they rescue (the last one being a great dane) which Susan considers her other children.
