Campaign Story
MaryKay has spent her life restoring life to others. As an LPN in Minnesota, recently working two jobs at a time, she has extended the lives of thousands over the past 25 years. As a single mom of 2, the last 25 years at home have been spent raising her son, Joe (25) and her daughter, Joy (16), who has Down Syndrome. As a dear friend to our family, my sister and I have been blessed to call her our second mother for the last 17 years. Now, although we can never repay how much she has blessed our lives, it is our turn to give back to her.
On the night of Saturday, December 5th, MaryKay began experiencing pins and needles in her right leg, and by Sunday morning her right leg, foot, arm, and hand had gone entirely numb. Recognizing the symptoms and without medical insurance, she drove herself to her hospital to avoid the hefty fees of an ambulance and where her medical costs would hopefully be discounted. From there, however, doctors confirmed her suspicions of a stroke and requested an ambulance to transfer her down to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.
Over the next couple weeks, she will be going through extensive treatment and intense therapy to regain strength, mobility, and feeling. While hopeful, doctors have predicted she may never regain complete feeling in her arm, hand, leg, and foot. In the meantime, caseworkers have predicted her cost of care without insurance will be “astronomical.” She is still recovering financially after being unemployed earlier in the year, and does not have an income while in the hospital. Additionally her son Joe has temporarily come home from his job out-of-state to help care for his sister Joy, and they are at a loss.
Therefore, my sister and I are reaching out now to help, and we are kindly asking for your assistance! We are asking anyone to give back to one of the biggest hearts we have ever known, who has sacrificed her time, energy and health for others at every moment. We truly believe in Karma, that kindness repays kindness, and that she is deserving of the most.Thank you!

Update as of 12/26
Update posted by Frankie Hurtado at 06:27 pmhere is another small update! I was able to go to visit Marykay today. She is in good spirits! A little on the frustrated side which is understandable considering her life is much different now! She uses walkers and other assisting devices to make daily living easier. She has to. . . . .

While I don't know MaryKay personally, I do know people whose lives she has impacted and know of her loving and selfless nature. I hope many more people will step up to the plate to help her at her most vulnerable.
