Today, the Miami Beach Police Department and Miami Beach FOPmourns the loss of Detective Larry E. Marrero, a beloved 28-year veteran of the Department. Detective Marrero suffered a medical emergency this morning while on duty in Police Headquarters and was rushed to Mount Sinai hospital, where he later passed away. Detective Marrero, a decorated officer, was currently serving as a background investigator, but he had previously served with distinction in a variety of assignments, including Patrol, Marine Patrol, and as a School Resource Officer, an Auto-Theft Investigator and a Homicide Detective. Larry was also a proud 20-year member of the Department’s elite S.W.A.T. Team. Detective Marrero was a consummate professional who always excelled in his assignments. Revered as a leader among his peers and supervisors alike, Larry will be truly missed. The Miami Beach Police Department asks for prayers for his immediate and extended family as we begin to cope with this tragic loss of a dear friend and colleague.
