Medical Costs

Hi everyone, my name is Genevieve Ellis. I am starting this project on behalf of our daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Kobus Ainslie for medical costs assistance.

Our Grandson, Zavian, was born on 16 July 2021, with a complex cardiac lesion. He was diagnosed with tricuspid valve atresia and PDA. One of the valves in his heart did not form during the embryological development and he therefore has only 3 chambers instead of 4.

He needs to have a cardiac surgery in the next 2 - 3 weeks. He will need a patent ductus arteriosus ligation and a pulmonary artery band.

The quote received from the Netcare Sunninghill Hospital is R195,574.10, but could be more should he have to stay in hospital longer after the surgery.

The quote received from the Maboneng Heart & Lung Institute is R114,640.18 for the surgery.

They were on a health insurance when he was born and only joined medical aid after he was born. The insurance won't cover the costs involved and there is a waiting period involved with the medical aid.

He requires the surgery urgently, therefore they can't postpone it until the waiting period ends.
