Campaign Story
6 years ago, Matty, Fathead, Fran and I ran Tough Mudder together. It was, comparatively speaking, a not particular difficult course - 10 miles of running and obstacles. However, right at the end, I got stuck running up a greased half pipe - over and over again I failed to get up it, whilst people of all genders, sizes and descriptions succeeded next to me. In between crying with laughter, Matty stuck with me - he didn't move on until I was able to grab his hand and finally get over the top.
Fast forward to now, a lot has changed. Following a terrible accident in 2016, Matty suffered a serious head injury that left him profoundly disabled. He is still in the process of recovery and in need of 24 hour care.
Part of the process of Matty's recovery involves alternative therapies, which are helping him to recover the cognitive, physical and verbal abilities taken from him during the accident. These therapies must be funded privately, so this year we are running the Ratrace in his honour - 80 miles by bicycle, 20 miles on foot and 2 miles by kayak, from Inverness to Glencoe over the Scottish Highlands.
Any help or support you can offer would be deeply appreciated.

This fund will make a real difference to Matty. As one of the many people , friends and family , who visit him regularly ( though not enough) I’ve seen how the therapy , especially the music therapy is making a difference to his reactions and improving the process of recovery . It is vital that this therapy continues . I applaud Tom Hatton ‘s drive and commitment in organising this essential fund! I’m pleased to contribute and hope others will do the same . Hilary
