Campaign Story
Following his stroke, Matthew will be in a rehabilitation centre in Hayward Heath for the next 6 - 8 weeks. Although he is paralysed down the left side he will be having intensive physio and occupational therapy to retrain his brain and get his body moving again. Currently he has full control of his right side but is lopsided of course and needs help to mobilise.
There is a fabulous piece of kit called a 'Sara Steady' which helps people move from bed to chair or commode without having to be hoisted. See photo and this link: http://www.hsccltd.co.uk/index.php/store/walking-aids/sara-steady-detail.
In his hospital they only have one between two wards which means it's not always available...this creates a bit of a predicament if you want to go to the loo in a hurry!
Our idea is to fundraise for one to improve the quality of Matthews stay in hospital (and at home if he still needs it when he leaves) and then to donate it to the ward once he has recovered his mobility.
