Maths workbooks for township kids

Hello there,

as a teacher living and working in South Africa, I came across some experience visiting schools in townships. The primary schools are over filled, there are unfortunately too little educators and some schools even suffer from bad conditions in their environment.

As a first step I want to introduce "Maths with Ms Maus" as a workbook which can be used during grade 4 to review topics that have been done in grade 3 and are done in grade 4. The book will include various topics such as "simple multiplication" as well as more difficult topics like "fractions". It will also include every-day knowledge like "time" and "measuring". The book will be structured in different chapters which will have an introduction of each topic, some explanation of what the topic is about, examples how to work with or on the certain topic and last but not least it will provide some exercises for the learners to work on. At the end of each chapter there will be a small test with solutions so that the learners themselves can test their knowledge and understanding.

Of course, a project like this is not just done in a minute or two, nor is it financially free. To provide the first 90 learners with the books, I opened up this fundraising campaign. The goal is open. Which means that after all the costs will be covered I can either print more books for more learners, use the money for materials for the kids or give the money to the schools themselves to buy equipment or anything they need. Following you see my costs and the financial plan.

Cost calculation:
- for 90 books: R 27,000 (approx. 1.590 € with today's exchange rate)
the books will be in color and with a bound binding / spiral binding
- for 1 book: R 300 (approx. 17,65 €) UPDATE
- for the illustrations R 4,000 (approx. 237 €)

Even in the event that the costs will not be covered by this fundraising, I will print the books for the learners out of my own pockets, I just hope that you want to and will help me to make this happen more easily and maybe also for more than just the first 90 learners.
