In August next summer I will be travelling to Sri Lanka to undertake a 5 week voluntary placement abroad with SLV (Sri Lanka Volunteering). SLV is a UK based organisation that allows students and graduates to travel to Sri Lanka to work in the mental health sector. They focus on supporting communities that lack resources in the mental health sector, working with extremely vulnerable individuals and families.
It is going to cost me over £2500/- I would appreciate any support that you can give me towards the funding of my voluntary work.
I’ll be working at a psychiatric facility and rehabilitation centre to help individuals with mental health problems and trauma sufferers. Along with this, I will be teaching English to children and youths who cannot afford education and I will be running activities at youth centres and special needs centres. Volunteering in my home country will be an amazing experience for me as a person and for my future as a psychologist.
There is not much help or support for mental health sufferers in Sri Lanka and many families cannot afford for their children to have an education. SLV targets all these issues, working on 5 projects in Sri Lanka.
Any donation you can give will be a massive help! Thank you so much for your support. I will keep everyone updated on how my fundraising is going and what I get up to in Sri Lanka!
