Making Mudpies…..Bringing Ceramics classes to The Art Academy of Colorado

Update posted by Ed Hawkins On Apr 08, 2016

WOW!!! I am overjoyed and overwhelmed! We have reached $600 (which is 20%) on our fundraising campaign, we have over 550 hits to our fundraising webpage, our introductory classes are going BEAUTIFULLY (we even have a waiting list of students who want to take our classes), and our teachers Reta and Dave are LOVING the chance to teach and work with some great students.

We also have another (and I think it's the best one yet!) video to share. In fact, we now have it set up on youtube that if you search for Art Academy of Colorado, you can see all of them (even the fnial one which I haven't posted here yet).

We are just getting started, though. Can you all help us reach $1000? With that, we can be sure that we will be able to get our wheels and our kiln wiring. Come on everyone, WE CAN DO IT!!! We are SOOOO close! :)

"Hot" off the presses!!!! Our second video clip for our fundraiser was released today on Youtube! I was going to wait and release it tomorrow, but it was just too good not to share :)

So far, we have over 475 visits to our fundraising page...can you believe it?!?!?! If every one of them donated just $5.00 each, we would almost be to our goal. But, it isn't too late!!! If you have seen our videos and think they are funny, if you want to support the arts in some way, if you are a "mud puppy" at heart and want to see us succeed, or if you just want to be generous.....now is the time. Act now and don't wait another day! Once you stop laughing from our antics on our video, click the button and throw a little jingle our way :)

It has been a HUGE weekend for us and the Ceramics program at The Art Academy of Colorado!!! We are half way to filling our up-coming introductory classes, we sold an electric assisted kick wheel yesterday which will give us the funds to purchase one of the full electric wheels we need, AND we got our very first advertising video completed and published on youtube....WOW!!!!!

You can see the video here on our gogetfunding campaign page. I hope you get a good laugh out of it. Please know that "no one was injured in the making of this video".....ha ha ha

We hope you will be able to share a little "jingle" towards our cause and share out this link to your friends and family on facebook and twitter so they can get a good laugh and, perhaps, support our program as well.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and support :)

Our first classes are just around the corner! We kick off the first set of introductory classes in 1 week and we can't wait!!!!

We will be having 2 sets of introductory classes - one on Saturday Mornings from 9A - 11A and one on Tuesday Evenings from 6P - 8P. We already have students lined up for both classes. There are a couple of slots still available in both classes, so let me know if you are interested and I would be happy to send you more information.

It is so heartwarming to know that, in just a few days, we will be able to start sharing our passion and love for clay with others in our community. The Arts have shaped all of our lives in one way or another, and the thought of bringing ceramics as an art form to folks inspires me on a deep and profound level.

To date, we have had almost 350 hits on our fundraiser website and have raised 200.00. We are well on our way to raising 10% of our goal, which is an excellent start. We can't thank all of you enough for your generosity and kind thoughts. Whether it is an encouraging comment on our fundraiser page, or just a few dollars, it will go a long way towards establishing our Pottery program :)

We are working on a few video clips that are quite a hoot. We will keep you posted as we get them edited and published.

Many of you have had the experience of setting your sites on something that is going to take a LOT of work, time, and energy to achieve.... finishing school, getting married, starting a business, doing some serious traveling.....

Often times, a great way to help avoid getting overwhelmed by the dream of what you want to achieve is to break the Ultimate Goal into Mini-Goals. In light of this, I wanted to share out with you what some of our Mini-Goals are for our fundraising campaign:

  1. $450 - this money will go to purchase our first electric wheel
  2. $800 - if we hit this mark, we can actually get 2 wheels and the price will be discounted. We really do need two electric wheels, so it would be great to save $$$ by being able to buy a set
  3. $1800 - We will be able to get the much-needed electrical work done to fire a larger kiln.
  4. $2200 - We need additional shelving and storage space in the studio so that our students have more room to store the projects they are working on.
  5. $2800 - Miscellaneous supplies and equipment needed such bar stools for seating around the large table, some pottery-specific tools needed to do work on projects, additional lighting to improve visibility, etc.
  6. $3000 - Additional kiln equipment. We have what we need to start firing, but the stuff you need to fire pieces inside of a kiln get expensive. Once we have the larger kiln firing, we are going to need a LOT more of these items.

I hope this helps some of you be able to see exactly what your donations will be going towards. As you can see, every penny is going right into the items needed for the studio so you know 100% of your investment is going to supporting the actual exploration of art through pottery :)

What a great week we are having with our campaign! We have had almost 200 visitors to our campaign -- woo hoo!!!! In addition, several folks have shared out our campaign through other sites such as Facebook, Nextdoor, and I think Twitter. We are SO grateful to all of you who are showing your support. Whether it is checking out our campaign, following us on gogetfunding, or making a contribution.....it means a great deal to our community.

In addition, we have now raised $120 towards the cause. That is most definitely a great start. Whether your donation is $5, $50, or $500, it will go a LONG way to expanding the availability of art in our community by giving people the chance to explore pottery and play in the mud :)

Thanks to all of you, and please follow our campaign so you can get the latest updates on our progress.
