Our campaign supports the fight against gender-based violence. In light of recent events around Cape Town, there have been increasing safety concern for all our sisters, our daughters, our friends: our women. Being on a campus with so many young women with big dreams and aspirations, it’s only natural to want to protect each and every single one of them, from being victims of these atrocities, as best we can. But the reality is, just as we aren’t equal in terms of gender, we also aren’t equal in terms of finances. With this in mind, our campaign strives to provide protective devices to all the females at the Stellenbosch University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Protective devices to be provided:

• Pepper spray
• Tasers
• Pocket sirens

How you can help

Currently women in Cape Town are being raped, murdered, kidnapped and even human trafficked. “When will it all end? Will we ever be able to feel safe again?” These are questions lurking around the mind of every female in the country at the moment. The reality of the matter is that #EndGenderBasedViolence will end and South Africans will continue with lives, but women will continue to feel unsafe. The list of “safe places” women can go is getting shorter by the day, yet our lives are being shortened without warning. How do you escape from danger when it is at every corner you turn? This is an evil we can’t escape so let us at least have the means to fight it. We may not know when it will end, or even if it will ever end but we want to ensure that we give all our females a fighting chance at life again, a chance to live. No one deserves to be treated this way, and no one deserves to be victimised because they couldn’t afford to protect themselves. Every rand you donate goes towards ensuring the safety of at least one girl at Stellenbosch University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. If you can help in any way to prevent the rape or the murder of at least one woman, why wouldn’t you? Or better yet, why don’t you?

Vision

To provide protective devices to the females at the Stellenbosch University Medical Campus and if the funds raised exceed our expectations, we would like to expand and supply a greater quantity of women in other campuses in and around Cape Town.

Mission

To ensure the safety of every female at the Stellenbosch University Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences by providing them with protective devices that they can carry on them at all times and use in situations of danger.
