Campaign Story

MISS BATHING BABE 2020
Who are we?
Bathing Babe is a swim lifestyle/fashion design and distribution company. It is founded in 2018, by Babalwa Magalela, long-time community member of Berlin (Buffalo City Metro).
The motivation behind starting the company is to demonstrate that coming from a mostly rural area can be viewed as an advantage and should never be a reason to limit one’s dreams.
Bathing Babe is a brand that encourages entrepreneurship, self-confidence and body positivity, and inclusivity. Sponsoring a beauty/talent pageant is an apt way to carry on this spirit to the youth, as this type of event would encompasses all of the above-mentioned aspects.
What’s our mission?
Berlin has a population of only 3050 people; most young people. Our community is one with too many unproductive, unsupervised children,who have too much time to get in trouble and opportunity to get lured into the increasing trend of recreational drug use, theft and robbery.
Through these quarterly Miss Bathing Babe events, we intend on achieving our mission to:
· curb recreational drug trade and use, robberyand theft within the community;
· encourage the youth of Berlin and surrounding areas towards positive and creative outlets;
· engage the youth in healthier forms of competition;
· supplement self-confidence within the youth and;
· inject financial relief in economically fragile homes within the community.
Our Milestones.
In the short 2 years since its founding, Bathing Babe has played a role in the transformation of the Berlin and surrounding area’s youth’s mindset. Bathing Babe has launched an ambassador program; one which is structured and encourages entrepreneurship, leadership andwork ethic.
The program empowers young boys and girls, by providing them with legal products to sell, instead of selling drugs or thieving. In return, they are remunerated. This, as we see, is a safe alternative of earning money. The program is NOT exclusive to certain groups and anyone is welcome to join.
In addition to launching the program, Bathing Babe, has also given local aspiring models, the opportunity to model our ranges, in a young designer’s fashion show and also participate in photo shoots for the company’s website, and social media platforms. Although the remuneration is not monetary, webelieve the exposure into the industry and the conduct of business, is of great benefit.
More about our project.
Bathing Babe would now like to launch a quarterly Miss BathingBabe pageant/talent show. This is in an effort to engage children with positive anticipation, organization, and participation, during the times they are idle. The events would be held during the holiday times, when the children are not inschool.
Young people between the ages of 16-19 years are encouraged to take part. All participants will be expected to showcase a talent, so as to combine beauty with purpose.
The main event will be split into categories, which include,but not limited to formal wear, swimwear and talent.
Gowns and swimsuits will be sponsored at no charge to the contestants,as most of participants come from low-income households.
The Miss Bathing Babe event wishes to involve as many childrenas it can, not only during the main event, but also during the planning phases as follows:
· Children who have a knack for administration,will be involved in forming part of the organizing committee
· There will be a model casting call for those who wish to register and participate in the main event.
· Those with a creative flair could get included inthe creation of the flyers and posters.
· Young fashion designers who wish to showcase their gowns, will be allows to do so.
· Individuals with an entrepreneurial flair willbe encouraged to do ticket sales.
All young individuals, that are involved and perform small jobsfor the event will receive remuneration, so they can assist financially at home.
We wish the prizes to have an impact in the lives of thewinners, and their family, so we will split the prizes into two: a cash prize,and a food/home care package.
1st place: R2 500 cash + R2 000 food/homecare package.
1st runner-up: R1 000 + R2 000 food/homecare package.
2nd runner-up: R500 + R2 000 food/home carepackage.
The winners or any other children that show exceptional character or knack in aspects of business, will be awarded an opportunity to shadow the founder of Bathing Babe ,while she conducts her daily company duties. This is to encourage them and expose them early on in life to the ins and outs of business.
HOW MUCH DO WE NEED?
A priority need, in order for the pageant/talent competitions to happen, is funding. The funds will be used towards location costs, rental needs,collateral materials, and most importantly the prizes, which will be cash and food/home care packages worth a combined value of R10 000.
We are asking for financial assistance amounting to R25 000, to support this initiative, that will make a meaningful difference in the lives of the youth and that of the community. A contribution from you, will give us the jumpstart that we need, while we continue to develop a fundraising plan.
