Macular hole repairs in both eyes

Purpose of request: Assistance in funding for Macula hole repairs in both eyes.

Patient: My mom; Annie Schroder aged 72. Pensioner with no other income other than state pension (approximately $100 per month). Fully dependent family members for support.

Background: My mom’s vision started to deteriorate over the last couple of months to the extent that her quality of life is significantly affected. As state facilities in South Africa leave a lot to be desired and waiting lists can be months to years, we took the decision and financial burden to take her to an ophthalmologist in private practice before the condition becomes irreparable. The ophthalmologist confirmed that she has developed macula holes on both eyes. It is rare to have the condition in both eyes. She’s indicated to have 20% vision in one eye and 30% vision in the other. The surgery planned is a Pars Plana Vitrectomy together with removal of a cataract in the left eye. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, such that we can have the surgery performed and as a minimum stop further complications and deterioration but praying for even the slightest of vision improvement.
