Campaign Story
The Story
Join us to support Lucy Walker in the fight against ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia)
If you have ever met Lucy
you would know how sweet, strong, energetic, and full of life this
little girl is! She loves her family & friends, her smile always
lights up any room and is a big WOU Wolves baseball fan!
What exactly does Lucy have?
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and was diagosed Nov 3, 2017
How did we find out?
On
November 3rd, we took Lucy in for a check up and a blood test. Her
daily activity had changed over a 30 day period and we believed it was
due to some life changes (sister starting school), growing and a cold
she had been fighting. Our once energetic, fun loving and lively girl,
was now lethargic, unable to walk more than a short distance, and was
constantly complaining that she didn't want to do anything. It just
didn't make sense.
Immediately after the blood test were
complete, our doctor told us to head directly to Doernbecher's Children
Hospital ER for further evaluation as her blood levels were dangerously
low. An overwhelming concern and emotions flooded us for our baby girl.
Our
hour and half drive to Portland seemed like an eternity. As we arrived
to the ER late afternoon, our fear was confirmed that Lucy was
diagnosed with Leukemia. She received her first blood transfusion during
that visit and by 10:45pm we were admitted to the oncology floor.
We
were greeted with doctors explaining that she would be getting more
blood transfusions, a platlet transfusion and undergoing a procedure.
It was a lot to take in to say the least. Four days later Lucy
underwent a bone marrow biopsy, a lumbar puncture, the placement of her
PICC line and the first dose of chemo.
We have been flooded with
information that at times is overwhelming, but we have learned that
this battle with Leukemia will be a 3 year journey full of treatments,
doctors appointments, chemotherapy, and all around changes in Lucy's
everyday life.
This is our journey so far: Thank you to everyone
that has reached out to us during this time. It has been a difficult
process but are very grateful for your calls, text, emails and feel the
love & support from everyone. Our hearts are over flowing with
gratitude! We will be sending up dates along the way. Thank you again
for all your support and it means the world to us!
Love Always,
Kellen, Tyler, Gracie and Lucy
Note from Team Lucy:
While
we hope that the majority of Lucy's medical care will be covered by
insurance, the Walker's will still have to find a way to pay for out of
pocket and traveling expenses just to name a few. The cost of Lucy's
care are already piling up, and together we believe we can provide them
the support in so many different ways. A simple donation of any amount
will help (which 100% of your donation will help the Walker's financial
burden), gift cards, prayers and words of encouragement!
Team
Lucy will be using this platform to provide updates to all those that
care and love Lucy! Feel free and donate, send a gift card or write a
note to Lucy, her sister(Gracie) or Mom and Dad. Thank you in advance
for supporting this beautiful family!!
