This year I turn 16. I see this as the first major milestone in my life. I've always been brought up to want to make a difference.
I have recently learnt that children in Indonesia have far fewer opportunities than ours due to the constant exposure to natural disasters, such as multiple tsunamis in 2018. This has meant that the country as a whole has struggled to develop and progress in modern society and relies heavily on international aid and volunteers.
For the whole of August this year we are travelling to Indonesia (my sister and I) where we will be embarking on multiple volunteering programmes. Teaching children in remote areas basic literacy and numeracy and assist their personal development, along with marine and coastal conservation. This in turn will hopefully have a positive impact on my own personal development.
Initially the challenge that I face is funding this project, we need to raise approximately £5,000 to ensure we can bring the adequate resources to the places that we are volunteering at. Every single penny raised will go to making a difference to the children and in turn make a difference to me.
