Hello Ladies & Gents,
my name is Lisa Hayley Frangs - I am a Virtuoso Music Teacher, a Community Musician & a Research Practitioner based in Cape Town, originally from KwaZulu Natal, South Africa.
I believe in using music to:
- Advocate for mental health & wellbeing, as well as the promotion of community engagement & social connections,
- Critically engage with the world around me through contemporary theories, technology, & modern teaching techniques,
- Interrogate the ethical considerations on the school music curriculum (not only South African).
If you have received this link, it is probably because I have taught a family member of yours or our paths have crossed in the past. Thank you for reading this far.
At the end of 2019, I had the honour of being accepted to do The Teaching Musician Postgraduate Programme which is a Masters in Music Education. In 2020 I embarked on this wonderful adventure of studying through the prestigious Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, in the UK (but I have been online from South Africa). https://www.trinitylaban.ac.uk/
The original idea was to work & study at the same time, & fund it myself.
Then the pandemic hit...
- Corona cut my private piano teaching business in half, & by the end of 2020 I had lost 50% of my income.
- 2021 saw some improvement, but it was still not financially viable & I was awarded an amount by the UK Hardship Fund for housing. https://www.gov.uk/extra-money-pay-university/univ...
- 2022 minimal financial growth or work opportunities & a feeling of overwhelmed panic has now set in.
2020: £1150 (R24 000) - PAID
2021: £2050 (R43 000) - PAID
2022: £1840 (R40 000*) - OUTSTANDING
*I round the Rand amount up to accommodate bank charges or changes in exchange rates.
This year will be my 3rd & final year. It is a dream of mine to be a Master in Music Education, & it is exciting to imagine what the future may bring.
I am reaching out for support to fund my tuition fees (not housing costs or living expenses) for my 2022 academic year.
I was hoping to be on my feet financially by now, but despite my efforts of living frugally (moving to cheaper housing, minimizing social activities, canceling subscriptions, cheaper insurance etc.) I have been unable to raise the required amount for completing my studies.
With your help, you would give me a moment in time of financial security that would allow me to continue to focus on my studies without worry.
I believe I am worthy. I am determined, motivated, forward thinking, & passionate about using music to make a difference in this world. If you would like to discuss anything about the music world please contact me through my website. https://livinginmusic.mymusicstaff.com/
Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
Have a lovely day.
