Lifted Strong – Women’s Education in Tanzania

I’m Luz Maria and I’m currently volunteering for a women’s empowerment charity called Lifted Strong in Arusha, Tanzania. I came to Arusha just over two weeks ago to help out in a small way with the work that Joyce and Eva do through Lifted Strong https://www.liftedstrong.org/

Each year they take a cohort of extremely vulnerable women in their community to educate, equip and empower them, so that they have the resources to care for themselves and their families. As part of their work for 2022, Lifted Strong is helping 11 women to start their own businesses, through the teaching of English, maths, sewing and business lessons.

The majority of women that come into Lifted Strong are HIV positive and as a result are rejected by their community and are traumatised by the shame and abuse they have experienced in their life. Lifted Strong offers these women a safe place where they can share their stories and begin to know that their status doesn’t define them.

I would love to help Joyce and Eva at Lifted Strong to continue their incredible work. Currently they don’t have the funds to support the sewing lessons for the 2022 cohort.

The classes would be for a period of six months, the value for one month per Mamma is 80,000 shillings, equivalent to 35 dollars approximately. The total of the project for the six months would be 2,310 dollars and if more than this amount is raised we could support monthly food for them or other projects of the organization.
