Dear friends of lovely Italy,
has done more damage in Italy than almost anywhere else and
more than two million Italian businesses, and Italian
often compare such challenges to the ones posed by World War II.
are sure you know about Italian country how is nice, many of you
probably had already opportunity to visit, let us shortly remember
you famous italian traditions known worldwide:
- espresso and cappuccino
- mozzarella di bufala
- Chiamti and Barolo wines
2 months of lockdown, most of coffeeshops and restaurants are trying
to run as usual, but with many restrictions like spaced tables and
separation barriers between customers. But unfortunately business is
not booming for various reasons:
- Local people are still afraid dining in the restaurants and prefer to stay indoors.
- Many companies have pushed employees to work from home and this leads to a noticeable decrease in the meals eaten in the restaurant.
- And last but not least the most tragic thing has been the disappearance of tourists.
In recent years, many Italian cities have transformed into a playground for hit and run tourism. Many craftsmen and small neighborhood shops closed their businesses due to the high rental costs, and coffeeshops, restaurants and souvenir shops arrived in their place. All activities aimed only at tourists and not at locals.
The lack of tourists leads to about 50% decrease in the turnover of coffeeshops and restaurants. In some locations, especially in the city center, up to 100%.
take as an example a city like Rome, a city with almost 3 million
residents where, according to market research, people went out for
dinner 1-2 times a week. Considering the most rosy hypothesis, this
is equivalent to 180 million dinners consumed in restaurants per
Furthermore about 30 million tourists who arrived to Rome every year with a 3-day stay equals 90 million dinners.
The 3 most important months for the tourist flow – April, May and June, are skipped and we cannot think of a recovery in travel for this year.
The 50% decrease in dinners consumed in the restaurants will result in the non-reopening of 40% of the activities without a strong help by government. And governmment is too busy to save large international companies and don't take care of small-medium companies.
are really very sad data, that is reality what Italy is facing now in
these days and coming weeks and months.
have launched new project
www.grandteam.it few days ago to help
Italian small and medium-sized enterprises, especially to restaurants
and bars, also to theatres - all are now having very difficult
times. Many of them are ordinary people like most of us, they were
doing their work with their big heart and full daily effort for many
years and now they are waking up every morning with a hope we will
come back to them and enjoy a day and will share our joys with them,
because they were, are and will always be for us there.
these days we are preparing leaflets and would like to distribute all
over Italy to get this project more visible among all people and join
us to recover Italian traditions, also we think about local media.
And last but not least, we would like to say that we want primarily
help financially directly to small enterprises they really would need
our support now.
hope you will consider this campaign for recovery of Italy and gladly
donate what you can to help preserve Italian traditions and be able
to come back to Italy soon and enjoy its beauty and its history. We
really apreciate much your generosity.
will also be very happy if you support us also on Facebook
