Mama's Journey

Right now, our family is facing one of the toughest battles alongside the person who has always been our pillar of strength and love—our beloved Mama, affectionately known as Lyn or Merly to those closest to her.

For 47 years, she has been more than a teacher; she's been the guiding force behind countless young minds, shaping futures with her wisdom and compassion. As a mother and grandmother, Mama has been the heartbeat of our family, imparting lessons of love, resilience, and the unbreakable bonds that tie us together. Now, she stands at a crucial crossroads, preparing to confront a series of health challenges that are testing her spirit.

Mama's upcoming surgery is a daunting journey, encompassing bladder cancer, a non-functioning left kidney, kidney stones, gall bladder stones within her bile duct, and a pre-malignant pancreatic cyst. These aren't just hurdles; they are defining moments in her pursuit of renewed health and vitality.

In the face of adversity, Mama has taught us that strength is not just a physical attribute but a testament to the power of love and unity. We've been through a lot as a family, learned from our past. We set up an Emergency Fund, thinking we had it covered. But now, with all the doctor visits, tests, procedures and surgeries, we've hit a roadblock.

Admittedly, all of us her children, we are not great at asking for help. We've faced challenges, but this one's testing us to our core. And so, we're turning to our extended family, friends, and everyone who knows Mama.

As we come together to embark on this journey towards healing, we humbly seek your support. Every contribution, big or small, brings us one step closer to ensuring that Mama receives the care she needs.

Let us rally around the beacon of our lives, the woman who has given us so much. Your generosity will not only make a difference in her battle against cancer but will also be a testament to the strength of community, the enduring power of love and the light that guides her through this challenging journey.

Understanding the Challenges Ahead

Mama's health challenges encapsulate a myriad of complexities, each demanding individual attention and specialized care involving 4 attending physicians (Oncologist, Urologist, Gastrologist, Cardiologist). We have been in and out of the hospital for the past 4-5 months for ER, consultations, multiple lab tests, therapy, and procedures.

The presence of kidney stones, alongside gall bladder stones within her bile duct, introduces an additional layer of concern. Left untreated, kidney stones can lead to excruciating pain, blockages in the urinary tract, and potential damage to the kidneys. The stones had already blocked her left kidney which apparently caused it to no longer function. The non-functioning left kidney signifies an impediment to her renal system's functionality. This condition, if left unaddressed, can result in an increased risk of infections, a progressive decline in kidney function, and potential complications affecting her overall health. This results to Mama experiencing pain on her back and lower extremities making it hard for her to stand or walk for a longer duration.

Similarly, gall bladder stones in the bile duct can lead to severe complications, including inflammation, infections, and blockages disrupting digestive functions. Symptoms for this include frequent nausea and vomiting

Moreover, bladder cancer and the pre-malignant pancreatic cyst highlight significant health risks. The tumor in her bladder is growing significantly and urgency for it to be removed has been highlighted by her oncologist to save her remaining functioning right kidney. Visible symptoms to name a few include uncontrollable urination, lack of appetite, and migraine. Without timely intervention and appropriate treatments, these conditions may progress, potentially leading to more invasive treatments, spread of cancerous cells, and increased health risks, impacting not only Mama's physical health but also her emotional well-being.No description available.

Navigating Complexity, Embracing Hope: The Next Steps in Mama's Healing Journey

Mama's upcoming surgery represents a pivotal milestone on her journey to healing. It's a convergence of medical expertise and Mama's unwavering resilience. The surgery will involve these major procedures:

  • Removal of the urinary bladder tumor
  • Removal of the non-functioning kidney
  • Removal of kidney stones
  • Removal and biopsy if the pre-malignant pancreatic cyst
  • Removal of bile duct stent and gallstones

These intricate procedures are poised to address the root causes of her health challenges, initiating the process of healing and recovery.

The consequences of leaving Mama's health conditions untreated are profound. It goes beyond mere discomfort; it's a potential blow to the quality of her life and an increased risk of further complications. If we don't act promptly, more aggressive treatments may become necessary, casting a shadow over Mama's overall well-being and possibly hindering her ability to wholeheartedly embrace her roles as a teacher, mother, and grandmother.

This journey toward healing is not a one-off event; it's a continuous process demanding our unwavering commitment. It requires ongoing treatments, vigilant monitoring, and necessary adjustments to ensure Mama's health trajectory moves positively toward a state of well-being. Your support in this ongoing journey is not just a donation; it's a lifeline that helps sustain Mama's spirit and resilience.

Supporting Mama's Journey Toward Renewed Health

Embarking on the journey towards renewed health, Mama draws strength from the collective support of family, friends, colleagues, and our community—a guiding light in the midst of uncertainty. Your support not only eases the burden of extensive medical expenses but also allows Mama to channel her focus into healing and cherishing precious moments with her loved ones. The generosity you will extend isn't merely a financial aid; it's an embrace, a symbol of the unwavering hope for Mama.

Ways to Illuminate Mama's Path

  • Financial Contributions: Every donation, regardless of size, directly contributes to Mama's medical expenses. The burden has been substantial with recurring hospital visits, tests, and initial treatments. While our family has shouldered a significant portion, but the journey ahead requires further financial support to alleviate this ongoing strain.
  • Share Her Story: Help amplify the reach of our collective love and support for Mama's cause. Your voice and your networks can extend the support far and wide, ensuring that Mama feels the warmth of a vast community rallying behind her.
  • Prayers and Positive Energy: Your heartfelt prayers and positive thoughts are powerful contributions, enveloping Mama in healing energy and hope. The emotional support is as essential as the financial assistance on this journey.
