Layla’s Top Surgery

Hi friends! My name is Layla Hildebrand (pronouns: they/them), and I'm a 19-year-old transgender non-binary student, studying at English and Philosophy at UCT and residing in Cape Town, South Africa. I'd like to raise funds for my transition surgery - specifically a breast-removal surgery - to help me feel more comfortable in my body and my gender identity.

Getting top surgery has always been a distant dream to me, and this is my first step towards making that dream a reality! I cannot afford the surgery, and in South Africa, transition or gender-affirming surgeries are deemed cosmetic surgeries, which doesn't allow me to use medical aid to pay for it. Unfortunately, it's not seen as a necessity yet. I have DD-cup sized breasts, so they are not easily hidden by sports bras or binders.

I'd love to get my surgery done in Cape Town, because my loved ones reside here with me and I wouldn't have to pay for flights to do the surgery elsewhere. There are also plenty of well-qualified private surgeons in Cape Town who could perform my surgery. I am unable to cover these costs by myself, so I'm in desperate need of some help! Getting my top surgery will finally allow me to feel comfortable in my body without dysphoria, and is my next step towards loving my body and feeling like it is my own. I'll finally be able to live more comfortably and happily.
