Keeping Kirby Alive!

I found my beloved dog, Kirby when I was driving to school almost one year ago. I was at a stop light and it was raining when I noticed this cute little dog wandering about on the side of the road. I was didn't want to be late for class, so I kept going for about 2 blocks when my heart told me to go back and help this poor dog. I did turn around and ended up finding her not to far from where I last saw her.  She was wet, scared and shaking, but she looked so sweet, I had to pick her up and take her home. After searching for her owner for months, with no luck, I have since kept her and cared for her. After taking her to the vet, it was determined that Kirby was a victim of animal abuse. I am convinced that she got away and I was meant to find her. She has become a loving, wonderful part of our family. 

I have endured many vet bills because of her abuse and neglect.  She was doing quite well till recently. Kirby seemed to not be able to stand well, has had weakness, difficulty breathing, loss of appetite and retching without vomiting. She was diagnosed with bloat or twisted stomach, which is a medical condition in which the stomach becomes overstretched by excessive gas content. It is also referred to as torsion when the stomach is also twisted. She has had x-rays, iv fluids and is currently on medication for the time being, but needs emergency surgery to place the stomach back into its correct position. Her abdomen will be examined for any devitalized tissue especially the stomach and spleen. I was told by the vet a partial gastrectomy may be necessary if there is any necrosis of the stomach wall.

I am a single mother of 3 boys, who just love her to pieces. I can't imagine after losing their dad, if we lost Kirby now too! She has brought so much happiness to our family this last year. However, I am without a job right now, still attending a nursing school, in hopes to one day support my family. I have about $100.00 in my bank account and have had to relay on family for support, but they can no longer keep helping me out. The vet said costs for this surgery will be approx. $2,500.00.  She needs the surgery immediately, so if and when I can get the funds she will get it, and dr. says she could make a complete recovery.  Kirby needs this surgery to keep her alive.
