Campaign Story
This little angel is Zac Bruwer. Zaccie was born on the 25th of May, 2009 in Mosselbay on the South East coast of South Africa to two incredible parents, my friends Lorena and Wikus.
When Zac was only 15 months old, he suffered a terrible freak accident when the family's driveway gate, fell on his little body. Zac was rushed to the nearest hospital where he was given two shots of adrenalin and resuscitated. He suffered brain damage (cerebral palsy), is spastic quadriplegic, cognitively blind and also has severe epilepsy. Zac's spasticity has become so bad that it has dislocated his right foot and also dislocated his left hip. His little arms have been pulled in and his spine is curving. The more Zac suffers from his spasticity and cramps, the more the pain brings on seizures.
The next part of the "Journey of Hope for Zac" would be to receive three procedures. The first being a hip operation called Superio Lateral Outcropping Bone Grafts (SLOB). Secondly an Alcohol Nerve Block and lastly a procedure called a Selective Percutaneous Myofascial Lengthening (SPML). All very big words for such a small little boy, but basically SPML Is a surgery to release all the tightness and scissoring of the muscles. It stops toe walking, creates flat feet and it also releases contractures. The alcohol nerve block stops the over active nerves from firing so fast and so often (stops spasticity) which allows for more mobility and freedom to move so that the muscles can strengthen.
Zac desperately needs these procedures but unfortunately as most medical operations go, are extremely expensive. We are hoping to raise enough funds for Zac to make this a possibility. I know that some of you who are reading this may not know Zac and his family personally, but anyone who has ever met Lorena will tell you what an incredible and inspiring woman she is. Apart from the momentous task of looking after Zaccie every day (which she manages with so much love and care) she is also the doting mother to Zac's older brothers, Damon and Kyle. All Lorena wants is for Zac to have a chance at rehab and proper care, not just to make her and her family's life easier, but more importantly to improve Zac's life and the quality of his life the best possible. With all our help and support we CAN make this happen!
Thank you for reading Zac's story and being part of this amazing "Journey of Hope". If you want to read more of Zaccie, please follow and like his page on Facebook: The Journey of Hope for Zac Bruwer https://www.facebook.com/pages/Journey-of-hope-for-Zac-Bruwer/161669840512575?fref=ts
