Johan was involved in an unfortunate accident whilst diving into a murky public swimming pool. He hit the shallow bottom (800mm deep) head first, and immediately felt agonizing pain shooting through his body. Not able to lift his hands at that point, he was taken to Unitas emergency centre, whereby he had to undergo x’rays and further CT Scans. He was then diagnosed with a severely ruptured C7 disc and fractures to the C6 disc and certain chest diaphragm.
Not having any medical insurance, he was immediately transferred to Kalafong state hospital outside Pretoria, where he is currently admitted and awaiting his much needed surgery. Unfortunately he’s on a waiting list and it is estimated that the procedure would probably only take place in approximately 3-4 weeks pending.
We’ve raised this page on behalf of Johan and his family that is directly impacted by this unfortunate event. The costs of daily travel to hospital, for his wife and kids to visit, initial medical bills at Unitas, and the burden lurking of his absence from his workplace for several months and the loss of income. As the only breadwinner, Johan and his family would really appreciate any contribution towards his recovery and also the wellbeing of his family in his absence and not having being reprimanded for the much dreaded outstanding medical bills, that would definitely be adding more stress to their current circumstances.
Being grateful for the current medical care he is receiving, we are not asking for private care funding that would be extremely costly, but only some contributions to assist them through this difficult time starring them down... We hope and pray that people would find the kindness and sincerity to assist Johan and his family to ensure a successful and stress free recovery.
We thank you in advance for your gratitude.
