Hey name is James Zbytniuk im 25 years old. On Aug. 14 2014 my older brother Roberts birthday I was on my way to work riding my Yamaha R6. Not far from my house a car pulled out in front of me and we hit head on. I was air lifted to UNC Chapel Hill, both bones in my right leg were broken so severely that the bones came through the skin. My right arm was broken with nerve damage in my neck paralyzing my right arm plus my left hand and wrist were broken along with my heel. I had a skull fracture and internal bleeding and all the blood vessels in my right eye were busted. I was wearing really good gear, I had on a HJC RPHA 10 a $600 helmet that I think saved me from severe head damage. I was also wearing a good jacket and pants and a brand new pair of Red Wing work boots. I think the outcome would have been worse if it was not for my gear. I spent 28 days at UNC, I dont remember much of the first two days I had two surgeries one on my leg and one on my arm. I was transferred to the rehab unit after two weeks. They were teaching me how to do everday tasks being as handicapped as I was. During the days I was there I experienced the worst pain I've ever felt. It was some of the hardest days of my life, I'm still in pain everyday. When I came home I was in a wheel chair and had to be looked after 24/7. After my left hand came out of the cast 2 months later I didn't need as much help eating or doing simple things. Still 5 months later I need help with everyday tasks and need a wheel chair part time. My family and friends have helped me tremendously. Its been hard learning how to do things with only one hand, and doing it left handed makes it even harder. Just writing is a challenge. The doctors are saying it's going to be a year and a half maybe two years before my right arm might start to get feeling back in it. I'm taking it day by day and doing physical therapy as much as possible, and have to drive back and forth to UNC an hour away from my house. I'm out of work and not able to return any time soon bills are stacking up and it is difficult to pay for everything. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated thank you for reading my story.
