Giving Birth in Jordan (USD)

Erika and I are expecting our second baby at the end of May. Yey! Erika is currently 14 weeks pregnant. If everything continues to be straight forward then we aim to have the baby here. But whilst we have health insurance, it only covers emergencies and does not cover the costs of scans, check ups or giving birth. Providentially, Erika's doctor (who took care of her when she was pregnant with Job) in Belfast was Jordanian and he has referred her to his relative who is also an obstetrician/gynaecologist here in Amman.

Just to give you an idea into the possible costs. A typical appointment costs around $50. But blood and urine samples cos an extra $29. A natural birth is around $3175 (but this can vary) and a C-section would be around double that. Erika aims to have a natural birth again. But due to her medical history (ovarian cancer) she needs to have an appointment around once a month until she is 36 weeks and then every other week.

If you feel led to give towards these costs in particular then we would be most grateful even if it is just something towards blood sample costs or an appointment with the doctor. Below is a list of all costs.

• 10 appointments with the doctor during pregnancy x $50
• 2 Blood samples x $29
• 2 Urine samples x $29
• Natural birth $3175
