Jerre Mae (Apple) Tamanal’s hemodialysis and kidney transplant

Jerre Mae, or Apple, as we fondly call her, was diagnosed with Berger's Disease (IgA nephropathy (Berger's disease) - Symptoms and causes - Mayo Clinic).

IgA nephropathy (nuh-FROP-uh-thee), also known as Berger's disease, is a kidney disease that occurs when an antibody called immunoglobulin A (IgA) builds up in your kidneys. This results in local inflammation that, over time, can hamper your kidneys' ability to filter waste from your blood.

She first felt the symptoms of this disease while she was in South Korea from late 2021 to early 2022. At that time, no biopsy was done and so she could not get the proper diagnosis. However, during her visit to a friend in the USA, her blood pressure suddenly shot up, and she was rushed to the emergency room. The doctors did several tests including a kidney biopsy that led to the diagnosis of Berger's Disease.

Now, Apple is currently confined in the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the USA, where she is receiving her regular hemodialysis while waiting for a kidney donor. The doctors hope to perform the kidney transplant operation within 3~6 months.
