ICU Costs to Save Tienie Steyn
On Sunday 21st June 2020, Tienie Steyn was in a life threatening motorbike accident, near one of South Africa's iconic tourist attractions, Mac Mac Falls. Tienie plummeted down a 30 meter cliff. Unconscious, and severely injured, he had to wait for an air evacuation and had been transferred to Nelspruit Medi Clinic.
His retired parents , Rita and Fanie who live on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast, some 10 hours away, received the call from Tienie's wife Lizel, that their son had been critically injured.
You can well imagine their emotional state, as due to the COVID Lockdown they had to obtain special permission to travel through different Provinces to get to Nelspruit, before they could leave and begin their journey.
Tienie is in a critical, but stable condition in the ICU. As you can imagine, he sustained extremely severe injuries
His parents Rita and Fanie have had to make a hospital payment of R140 000 and on the 25th June make another payment of R80 000. Both Rita and Fanie, and Tienie"s wife Lizel Steyn want to ensure that he receives the best medical care possible to survive these horrific injuries, and the risk of moving him to another hospital could cause permanent damage to his spine and neck.
In addition, with COVID19, ICU beds are very hard to secure.
Rita and Fanie are putting this life savings into saving their son.
On behalf of Tienie"s parents, Rita and Fanie, and his wife Lizel, we want to ask you to please donate anything that you can afford, to assist with covering this ICU and hospital account.
As you can imagine, this recovery process is going to be long, extremely difficult, with months of recuperation and therapy.
On behalf of the family, I thank you for reading this, and hopefully being in a position to financially assist with these costs. There are simply no words that we could say, to express our sincerest gratitude.
