I'm an ordinary girl who gets up every day to go to work, a girl who spends every day with her amazing three-year-old daughter and the father of her child. If I want the next time I wake up to be as enchanting as the previous one, then I have to act.

However, this is not about me, it’s about all of us. Moreover, it’s for all of us. Recent developments regarding Covid-19 have forced me to reflect seriously on what we, ordinary people, can do to help.

Yes, we have quarantines. Yes, we have mandatory testing. But that’s not enough! The situation in the Czech Republic is currently such that there are no face masks available. Manufacturers do actually make them, but they are preferentially made available to medical staff, which is understandable but not excusable. No one knows how the situation regarding Covid-19 will evolve, but it is already clear that not even the guaranteed numbers of face masks will necessarily be enough. It already affects us all, whether we have been infected or not, because no one knows what tomorrow brings.

So even though a mask is not 100 percent protection against the transmission of Covid-19, I believe it makes sense to do at least something.

I want to buy a sewing machine and several kinds of textiles; any of the traditional textiles will suffice for adults, they could even have pictures for our little ones, so that the kids won’t be embarrassed by the face mask.

As soon as I sew the first batch of face masks, I’ll set off for where they are most needed. For free, naturally.

There will be a rapid response on social networks. Maybe I’ll be able to get even more support for sewing more masks. None of us knows what lays in store for us in the future. Maybe Covid-19 is just the first big test in a line of future tests, and although I hope it is the last one that we will have to face, I will still keep the first face mask I sew in a drawer to be sure, and I will be happy to hand out the other hand-sewn face masks.

Shall we go for it?

Do not hesitate to contact me for further information. I would like to give a detailed plan; from buying a specific sewing machine, special textiles, spreading the word on social networks to photographs of the face masks or those wearing them (with their consent).
