My Story

I am a young, passionate, and dedicated African woman from the small island state of Mauritius. I work on issues ranging from education for vulnerable children, environmental awareness, small island developing states and climate change, the post 2015 developmental agenda, youth empowerment and restorative justice.

I am a UNESCO Small Island Developing States youth leader, activist and lobbyist and lead projects in Mauritius relating to the preparation for the 3rd International SIDS Conference which will be held in Apia, Samoa in Sept 2014. I am also a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Shapers Community which is a network of youth leaders working around the world to empower youth, work for the betterment of our society and get involved in charitable initiatives in their home country.

I will be attending the Indian Ocean Futures Conference 2014 which will be held in March 2014 in Brisbane, Australia. It is an international conference presented by the Australia-Asia-Pacific Institute Indian Ocean Futures Initiative. The Indian Ocean basin is rapidly becoming a powerhouse of economic, social, cultural and political development.

The countries and populations around the Indian Ocean rim are already experiencing profound change. Indian Ocean Futures 2014 brings together academics, government, industry and communities to identify these changes and discuss the challenges for the future of the region and its peoples. The conference will allow young leaders, politicians, members from the civil society and experts, as well as the private sector stakeholders to discuss and further new approaches to the region, its potentials, challenges and peoples.

I will be needing funds so as to cover my travel and living expenses in Australia for the duration of the conference. I want to attend the conference and participate as a young leader from a developing small island state, so as to get more insight into the insights and opportunities which lie ahead for the Indian Ocean and also meet leaders, experts and community workers which will be present at the conference, so as to establish bonds and networks.

The funds will allow me to attend the conference and be part and parcel of the endeavour to make the world the better place as I believe that nothing works better than networking and building links so as to create synergies between regions, countries and people across the world. I will be able to represent my country, the youth and also contribute equally to the effort at bettering the future of the Indian Ocean region.

What I need
